DW - Silly Comic 1 page 2 by lenneth DW - Silly Comic 1 page 2 by lenneth
Second page of my Manga Studio practice attempt/dorky Who comic thingie.

Leela is one of my favorite companions. She rocked. I can't even remember why I thought it'd be funny to put Amy in her outfit. But there you go.

For the record, Matt Smith appears to have a ginormous skull and really tricky facial features. Those three little panels in the middle are the main reason this took so long. and now they're shrunk way down. XD I may upload larger sizes of them later, as I finally ended up being fairly happy with them. Multi-panel reactions are not easy! :o I guess I could've just copy/pasted and edited but uhm.. well I no so smrt I guess.

First page here: [link]

*edit I wasn't too pleased with cartoony-Amy's head in the last panel, so I tweaked it a bit.

(Now in color! [link])

Cute comic! I love your art style - it's very loose, but with great control over the curves, especially in the hair. (As someone whose art is generally more angular and heavy-handed, I really love stuff with elegant curves) I also love how you drew Matt Smith's face. God - that man has such an interesting head to draw...

The only critique that I can give is that if you plan to keep it uncolored, you might want to incorporate some more black into it - at first glance, the white-ness seems to overtake the darks. But I'm just nitpicking. Overall, lovely work!

Clean inking is something still sort of new for me - I tend to be pretty sketchy. I'll redo a hair line many many times before I'm happy, don't even ask me how many times I redrew the Doctor's hair ;) So I really appreciate that!

Thank you very much for that bit of crit! As I start to attempt more sequential art (well and all of my art in general as well), I've been trying to work on use of contrast, and keeping that in mind as I draw. I've still a lot to learn, however. I do hope to color this - I've already started the first page. But whether or not I finish is always up in the air *laughs*. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll definitely be keeping that in mind.

No problem - I do a lot of comic-styled art, myself, and I've got a real thing about balance between lights and darks in black-and-white stuff. I guess a lot of people are a kinda afraid of ink.

I know what you mean about clean inking - I still have trouble with it, and I've been practicing since junior high. It looks good, though. You've obviously got talent!

Oh my giddy aunt!

At leats she didn't dress up as Sarah Jane circa 'The Hand of Fear'.

Hah! We'll just pretend it ended up in one of the crumpled reject piles on the floor :)

I bet she'd look almost as adorable as SJ did though. =)

I'm pretty sure Amy's one of those "disgusting" types that can make nearly anything look good somehow. >_> *sulks*
